What does deregulation mean to residential users.
Electricity deregulation allows residential and commercial customers to purchase the generation and transmission of the electricity (also known as "Power Supply Service") from suppliers like CUSI. The utility, however, will still distribute the electricity to the customer's home.

Will I continue to receive one electricity bill if I choose CUSI as my supplier?
Yes. You will continue to receive one bill from PEPCO. CUSI electricity charges (Power Supply Service) will be listed separately on your utility bill.

Who is CUSI and how much experience does CUSI have as an energy supplier?
CUSI is DC company that was started in Aug-2002 as DC Electric.org and has been managed by CPWI which now serves over 500 coummunity associations in DC and several thousand in MD, PA, VA and WV. Community Utilities Services Inc. (CUSI) was created in 2005 to provide customers with deregulated energy supplies. CUSI will offer services to Common Interest Communities (Condominium, Cooperatives and Homeowner Association homeowners beganing in late 2005.

How do I know that CUSI is reliable?
We live in you neighborhood, our childern go to DC public schools, we are part
of this community. As well, CUSI will ensure that the residences of CIC's are
getting the same level of service that CPWI has been supplying to your community since 1988. CUSI is currently discovering which licenses if any are needed in DC to supply electricity to consumers in the District of Columbia and will meet all the energy marketing certifications required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as mandated.

Will I save money compared to what I pay Pepco now?
To determine your electricity savings, you need to compare the Utility's generation and transmission charges against those same charges from CUSI (the distribution charges will always be the same because they will be determined and charged by the Utility). Your actual usage and the particular community load profile will determine your saving.

What is Pepco's "Price to Compare"
Each utility has established a "Price to Compare." The "Price to Compare" is the Utility's average Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate that you would pay for electricity generation and transmission on a per kWh basis. Currently the is no competative offer of services in the District of Columbia for residential users.

What if I sign up with CUSI and decide I want to go back to Pepco?
You have a 10 day cancellation period by DC Law and we are giving you another 4 days for a total of 14 days to decide if CUSI is right for you. You will be required to pay a cancellation fee if you decide to terminate your contract during its term you will be charged $37.50.

Will Pepco treat me differently if I switch to CUSI?
No, There are federal laws that regulate these matters. Plus You can depend on the same reliable service from Pepco whether or not you choose a new supplier They will still be sending you the same bill just with the CUSI saving now included.

Please explain the following electricity charges on my bill: Generation, Distribution, and Transmission?
Generation Service Charge (10% of electricity bill, paid to supplier) - Generation service charges are for the production of electricity at the power plant cost about 10 percent of the tolal to initate. .Transmission Charge (60% of electricity bill, paid to supplier) -
Distribution Charge (30% of electricity bill, paid to utility) - The distribution charge is part of the basic service charge that is included on every customer's bill for delivering electricity from PEPCO to the customer's home or business. The electricity distribution charge is regulated by Distric of Columbia Public Service Commission. (CUSI' electricity supply service excludes all distribution charges.)
The transmission charge(60% of electricty bill, paid to transporter) is part of the basic service charge that is included on every customer's bill for transporting electricity from the source of supply to the electricity distribution utility (PEPCO or Others).

What is a kilowatt-hour?
Kilowatt-hours are a measure of electricity usage. One kilowatt-hour equals 1,000 watt hours. Using a 100 watt light bulb for one hour consumes 100 watt-hours of electricity. Using a 60 or 45 watt light bulb for one thousand hours consumes 60 - 45 kilowatt-hours of electricity. The customer's electricity meter measures electricity usage

Who will respond to power outages and electricity emergencies?

Your electricity utility has itemized the three main components of your bill so you will have the information you need to make an informed decision about choosing a competitive electricity supplier like CUSI. The three main components of your bill are generation, transmission and distribution.

No special equipment is required to buy electricity from CUSI.

After I agreed to CUSI when will I be switched over?
New customers should be switched within a month or two, with CUSI charges appearing on the bill mailed the month following the switch. Note: You will receive a letter from Pepco notifying you when you will be switched.

What is an aggregator?
A buying group that bargains for electricity by negotiating lower prices for customers who have authorized them to act on their behalf.

I want to sign up with CUSI, but my name not the owners appears on the utility bill?
Your Public Utility Commission has ruled that only individuals whose name appears on the utility bill may change electricity generation suppliers. In the case of renters where the owner gets and pays the bill, please have them call us for rate information.

Do I have to sign a contract to sign up with CUSI?
Yes. Your Public Utility Commission requires a contract for a minimum amount of time and to verify that you have actually decided to switch to a different energy service provider.

What if I do not pay my bill?
Your account and all the records will be turnned over to our partner CommunityCollections.com and they will be handle it from there. Actions can include diversion to credit counseling, reporting to regional bureau of account status, and all possible legal remidies.
